FAQ

What are Gruzzles?

Gruzzles are mysteries – a museum theft, a deserted island, a locked briefcase, a valuable secret recipe. Your best weapon is your brain.

Are your puzzles murder mysteries?

Gruzzles contain no murders, no violence of any kind, and no gruesome scenarios. They are completely family-friendly.

Are there hints?

Hints and solutions are posted online. Each Gruzzle box contains a secret URL that you can use to access them.

Why aren’t Gruzzles ranked Easy / Medium / Hard?

Everyone thinks differently; what one person finds hard, another may find easy.

Do I solve a Gruzzle one piece at a time?

Gruzzles are not always linear. The various components of a Gruzzle are often interconnected, and some components may be used more than once. Gruzzles are cleverly designed and rewarding to solve. Gruzzles do not rely on guesswork, but instead use logic and deductive thinking.

Do I need to use the web to solve a Gruzzle?

Just about everything you need is included in a Gruzzle box. If additional items are required, such as scissors or tape, the introductory letter in the box will say so. Most other puzzle companies require you to be online, either on their site or elsewhere, searching for clue-related information. An internet connection is not needed to solve a Gruzzle.

Do I need a computer?

No, you do not need a computer, phone, or tablet to solve a Gruzzle. However, if you need hints, those can be found on this website. And if you need confirmation that your final answer is correct, it too can be found on this website.

Who can play?

Because of the variety of puzzle types in each Gruzzle, there is a benefit to solving a Gruzzle in groups. Gather friends, family, or co-workers. People have different strengths and will see clues differently. Children as young as ten can be great contributors.

How long does it take to solve a Gruzzle?

Some Gruzzles may be done in a few hours. Some might be solved over the course of a few days. Mini Gruzzles usually take 1-2 hours. It all depends on who is on your team and how committed you are to solving without using hints.

What’s in a Gruzzle box?

Every Gruzzle contains a series of interconnected puzzles in different formats and using different materials. A computer is not needed. However, hints and confirmation of your final answer can be found on our website.

What our customers say about Gruzzle

The Casino

I really enjoyed this box, the number of steps in each puzzle felt just right, and I liked following the three paths to the three numbers. – Lauren B.

I especially enjoyed the poker logic problem. Genius! – Kathryn

I loved playing The Casino. It’s always so fun to discover the different uses of the same pieces. I got quite stumped on one puzzle, but it ended up being my favorite puzzle. I love that the hints gave me the confirmation I needed without giving me more info than what I wanted. I’m always looking forward to more Gruzzle boxes and I think I’ll get started on another box tonight! – Melinda

The Observatory

The Observatory is so far the best of year 2 from Gruzzle (and Year 2 has been a step up from Year 1). Who thought so many puzzles could be solved via 3 strips of paper and a constellation map. Super excited for the rest of the season (and beyond to Year 3!) – Myles N.

The Restaurant

I LOVED playing through The Restaurant this weekend... And I especially loved the final puzzle. I was going to immediately order The Spy after solving this one, but I decided to be responsible and finish my other three Gruzzles first. – Melinda C.

My family absolutely loves solving each Gruzzle. We look forward to them eagerly. We think that whoever writes the puzzles must be brilliant. That pot with the slits and holes… genius! Thank you for keeping us guessing. – Kathryn L.

The Map / The Garden

We've now played The Garden and The Map and are absolutely obsessed with Gruzzles! My partner and I play a lot of tabletop puzzles, and these are amongst the best we've done over the last few years - fantastic world-building, just the right level of difficulty and such a great variety of puzzle types... Thanks again for making such a brilliant set of puzzles! – Gemma M.

The Library

I was particularly intrigued by the interlocking folding strips—so simple but so cool! Looking forward to whatever you folks do next. - Carol
